Officials are investigating the cause of an unoccupied house fire late Monday morning near the Waiakea Villas in Hilo.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 10:11 a.m., minutes after the blaze was reported, to find the 531 Mililani St. residence engulfed in flames, according to a Hawaii Fire Department statement. No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported.
The fire initially threatened a home on Manono Street, but crews were able to protect the home using tactical attack lines, the statement said. Road blocks were set up in two nearby intersections and traffic detoured to Manono Street. The fire was extinguished at 12:16 p.m.
Officials have not yet determined the amount of damage.
